From a basement at Tau to four factories.
In 1987 a 24-year-old inventor started Data- og Systemutvikling at Tau. Today Westcontrol is a full-range system house in three companies, with roots in Egersund back to 1946 and in Notodden back to 1970.
01 History
Three stories, one group.
Rogaland entrepreneurship, maritime instruments from Egersund and precision mechanics from Telemark.

Egersund
Thorleif Robertson starts making radio equipment for the Norwegian fishing fleet.
- 1948
Egersund
Robertson lays the groundwork for autopilots for small and large vessels, an export that reaches Europe and the USA.
- 1970
Notodden
Jan Henry Berget founds Berget Instrument og Maskinverksted (BIM).
- 1971
Egersund
Robertson is sold to A/S Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk.
- 1973
Notodden
Vebjørn Tandberg starts the cable and electrical department as part of Tandberg Radiofabrikk TR6.
- 1987
Tau
Mikal Dreggevik, a 24-year-old inventor, founds Data- og Systemutvikling in a basement at Tau.
- 1994
Tau
The company is renamed Westcontrol.
- 2011
Egersund
Westcontrol becomes the owner in Egersund, and the company is renamed Westcontrol Robertson AS.
- 2013
Notodden
Westcontrol becomes the owner of the electrical department at Notodden.
- 2016
Notodden
Four companies merge into Berget AS, gathering mechanics, cable and electronics.
- 2020
Notodden
Industrial cooperation with Boeing begins at Berget.
- 2023
Tau
Westcontrol is named Company of the Year.
- 2024
Notodden
Berget AS becomes Westcontrol Berget, an integrated part of the group.
02 Ownership
Long-term owners.
Westcontrol AS is majority-owned by Brødrene Nordbø AS. Westcontrol AS owns Westcontrol Robertson AS and holds the majority in Westcontrol Berget AS.
Since 2025 the group has run on one shared business platform, RamBase Cloud ERP, which gives traceability of components and materials across the factories.
